Before Starting Training
- Valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license or passport)
- TSA approval (for international students)
- FAA medical certificate (Class 3 minimum for Private Pilot)
- Proof of Hawaii residency (for Horizon Air PDP applicants)
During Training
- Student pilot certificate (obtained after medical exam)
- Logbook (provided by PFA or purchased separately)

Common questions about flight training at PFA
How long does the Professional Pilot Program take?
The program typically takes between 9-12 months to complete, depending on your pace of learning and flight frequency. Students training full-time (20-30 hours per week) complete faster.
What medical certificate do I need?
You need at least a Third Class medical certificate to start training for your Private Pilot license. For the Professional Pilot Program and airline career, you'll eventually need a First Class medical.
Can I bring passengers on discovery flights?
Yes! You can bring up to 2 people along for your 1-hour discovery flight around Oahu, weight permitting.
Do international students need special approval?
Yes, international students need TSA approval before beginning flight training. We can guide you through this process.
What happens after I complete my training?
Graduates of the Professional Pilot Program receive a guaranteed flight instructor position at PFA, allowing you to build hours while earning income toward your airline career.
